📭 Reporting to faraway family and friends about the week that was (Series) - Week 19
Dear loved ones,
Grüezi mitenand from Switzerland 😃. Our frantic pace of organising is winding down...
Having Wifi connection at home has upped our comfort level. Having a desk also helps! I am not only using the latter to write but also to draw up various To-Do lists boosting my sense of well being and control. Yet, the frequent interruptions by our resident cat, meowing for cuddles, Rotterdam and toilet assistance remind me that really, any form of control (if it existed) left the building some time ago.
Baptism of fire for Jaime who has started his "Integration Klasse": a small class dedicated to new arrivals in a primary & secondary school. He is coping ok - being amongst older classmates, commenting that he now "feels like 15". His teachers are encouraging him to walk up to his Xth floor classroom by himself. Jaime doesn't feel ready, privately disclosing that he is scared of the big and loud students at the stairs.
I am trying to embrace the Swiss ways despite grappling with the philosophy of letting the children walk to school on their own. Carefully tying up the flattened cartons for recycling and replacing "Hello" with an enthusiastic "Grüezi". German lessons will be a priority once we finalise the arrangements for our resident cat aka Isabel to receive some part-time day care and weekly physiotherapy sessions.
Much love. Peace.
